MCV

The MCV test is a quick and effective method for assessing and controlling soil moisture in earthworks. This test involves compacting the material using a rammer and recording the resulting settlement after a specified number of blows. By plotting the results on a logarithmic scale, the MCV value can be calculated and used to analyze the variation in MCV against changing moisture content.

To determine the Moisture Condition Calibration (MCC) of a particular soil, several specimens are tested at different moisture contents. This relationship between MCV and moisture content is then established, allowing the test to be used as a control for earthworks without the need for moisture content or Atterberg limit testing. The benefits of the MCV test include its simplicity, quick results, and ease of application.

This test provides an alternative to the commonly used method of determining moisture content based on a multiple of the plastic limit.
